Abstract:
In this video Dr. Evan Adams speaks to two-eyed seeing in the health field and he stories his way through teachings he shares with the audience. Dr. Adams also speaks to the racism in healthcare and how it impacts Indigenous communities. He often shared lived experiences to bolster points about being extraordinary people for our communities. This presentation was part of the Cultural Safety Symposium, which was hosted by ICER and held at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan campus in 2015. It was published by ICER In 2016.

Evan Adams is a Coast Salish actor and family physician from the Tla’amin First Nation near Powell River, British Columbia. After completing his medical degree at the University of Calgary he did his residency at the University of British Columbia (UBC), where he focused on Aboriginal health at the St. Paul’s Site of the UBC Family Practice Residency Program in Vancouver. He is engaged in ongoing health care system transformation initiatives and is proud to bring forward wellness directives generated by First Nations communities.
