Abstract:
In this video Cheryl Ward speaks about community wellbeing and how to combat cultural safety gaps in the healthcare system. She also discusses how these gaps can be filled and how it is important to reach out to the healthcare staff who wish to make a difference and are already working towards that. This presentation was part of the Cultural Safety Symposium, which was hosted by ICER and held at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan campus in 2015. It was published by ICER In 2016.

Cheryl Ward is the Interim Director of Indigenous Health and the Provincial Lead for the San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training program at the Provincial Health Services Authority. Cheryl’s work conceptualizing and developing San’yas, her inspiring leadership, and her commitment to social justice and equity, make her a leader in quality and a champion for improving care for Indigenous people across British Columbia.
